CHICAGO FILM FESTIVAL (October 16 -29, 2008)
North America's oldest competitive international film festival. Founded in 1964 by award winning filmmaker and graphic designer Michael Kutza is also one of the most important festivals.

HOT SPRINGS DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL
(October 17 - 26, Hot Springs AR) 17th edition of the olsdest and largest documentary festival in the country - and the second oldest in the world - takes place in the historic Malco Theatre.
The fest began in 1992, launched by a small group of arts activists in Hot Springs. That year, 10 Academy Award nominated documentary films were screened to the
public free of charge. Veteran actor James Whitmore lent his presence to this first event and spoke of a bright future: "This (Hot Springs) could be the documentary
capital of the world." This year's Festival is going to be spectacular with over 60 filmmakers in attendance and over 95 documentaries, guests like Bela Fleck (Throw Down Your Heart),
Michael York ("Ben 10: Alien Force") to name but a few, workshops, filmmaker gatherings and much more. |

PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (January 8 - 19, 2009) at various theatres dotted around Palm Springs including the Annenberg Auditorium,
Camelot Theatres, Palm Canyon Theatre, Wangs, Palm Springs Regal 9 and others. Passes range form $275 to $2000 to attend everything. |

SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL (January 15 - 25, 2009 Park City UT) Held in and around
Park City, Utah each January and widely regarded as the premier U.S.
showcase for American and international independent film. Inclusive and
eclectic in its programming approach, the Festival has grown to include film
culture events, panel discussions, youth programs, online exhibition, and
live music. The Sundance Film Festival creates a vibrant, unique community of
artists and audiences that extends well beyond the mountains of Park City.

accommodations in the area, but book now because the festival is not only
popular, it is smack dab in the middle of ski season. |

PAN AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL (February 5 - 16, 2009 Los Angeles CA) Each year, PAFF presents over 100 quality films
from the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, the
South Pacific and Canada, all showcasing the diversity and complexity of
people of African descent. One of America's largest fine art shows featuring
prominent and emerging black artists and fine crafts people, including local,
national and international poets, musicians and storytellers. |

SXSW FILM (March 13-21, 2009 Austin TX) Since 1994 the South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival has been essentially two events in one.
By day, it is an industry-oriented film conference with panels, workshops, mentor sessions and a Trade Show. It has been described as a five day
crash course on guerilla filmmaking and marketing. Day and night the SXSW Film Festival screens about 150 - 200 of the best independent films
produced during the previous year as well as works from established directors who have inspired the latest generation of filmmakers. Aspiring
novices and seasoned professionals alike can immerse themselves in film and the business of film by registering for SXSW. |

PHILADELPHIA FILM FEST (April 3 -15) The Philadelphia Film Festival has become one of the fastest-growing film festivals in the country with
nearly 70,000 attendees. They present as many as 300 works on film and video, ranging from star-studded studio features to daring experimental
student shorts. Anywhere from 40-50 nationalities are represented annually, with the latest works from such standard-bearers as France and Italy
screening alongside new voices from Estonia, Lebanon, South Africa, and beyond. |

TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL (April 23 - May 4) Founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff as a response to the attacks on
the World Trade Center. Anchored in Tribeca, it also takes place in additional neighborhoods throughout Manhattan, featuring film screenings,
special events, concerts, a family street fair, and panel discussions. |
LOCARNO FILM FESTIVAL (June
6-16,2008 Tricino Switzerland) The 60th edition of this wonderful festival is staged on scenic Switzerland/Italian border in the southernmost corner of the country. Spread throughout the town in
about 30 venues including Piazza Grande's outdoor screen. To get a good feel for the area Stay at the marvelous Swiss Diamond Hotel Olivella which sits
right on the shore of Lake Lugano. |

RIVERSIDE FILM FESTIVAL
(June 25 - 29 Saginaw MI)
Nifty little fest hosted in two historic venues: The Castle and the Temple Theater. Look for mostly artsy-fartsy films including the lush indy The Fall and
Lauren Bacall's The Walker. Since you'll be driving, consider staying at the themed Bavarian Inn in close by Frankenmuth and make it a complete weekend. |

WORLDFILM FESTIVAL
(August 21-September 1 Montreal Quebec) One of the biggest fests in the world will include world and international
premieres. In competition the international official Jury will award the various prizes for the feature films of his section: Grand Prix of the Americas, Special Grand Prix of
the Jury, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Artistic Contribution, Innovation Award. This same Jury will award two prizes for the short films of
this section. Also featured is an "Hors Concours" out of competition of great world movies. FOCUS ON WORLD CINEMA (Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania) reflects
the vocation of the Festival as "World Film Festival". "DOCUMENTARIES OF THE WORLD" section will include non-fiction films reflecting the subjects and concerns of filmmakers
from countries around the globe. |

VENICE FILM FESTIVAL
(August 29 - September 8
Venice, Italy) This year's festival will cast its eye over the protagonists
of the cinema of tomorrow, and over the history of cinema: the 75th anniversary
Golden Lion is to be awarded to Bernardo Bertolucci, the Golden Lion for
lifetime achievement to Tim Burton, the celebratory events are directed by
Alexander Kluge, and the retrospective is dedicated to Spaghetti Westerns. |

line-up of the Festival includes the following sections: Venezia 64 - In
Competition, Venezia 64 - Out of Competition, Orizzonti, and Corto
Cortissimo. The main festival venues are the Palazzo del Cinema, the
Palazzo del Casino, and the PalaLido.

LA Shorts Fest (September , 2008 Burbank, CA) For those who love shorts, LA is second only to Tribeca. However, in eleven years 25
filmmakers have proceeded to earn Academy Award nominations with a streak of
seven consecutive winning filmmakers actually taking home an Oscar. |

TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL (September
4-13, 2008) One of the more important film fests featuring Canadian and North
American films. David Cronenberg, Denys Arcand and Francois Girard are among
Canadian directors whose films will be featured. But also look for The latest
zombie movie from George A. Romero and an urban chiller starring
"American Beauty" vixen Mena Suvari. "Emotional Arithmetic,''
a drama about three Holocaust survivors who reunite after 40 years apart,
will be the closing film. |
